Welcome To Sanderson

Founded in 1860 by Arthur Sanderson, Sanderson began as a business importing luxury papers, and has evolved to become one of the most renowned interior design and decorating brands worldwide.

1860 - In the Beginning

It all began in 1860, in Islington, London, when Arthur Sanderson established his business importing luxury French paper hangings to Britain.

1892 - Making Roots in Chiswick

A four-storey factory is built in Chiswick. Harold Sanderson oversees production and introduces freelance designers, including C.F.A. Voysey, who goes on to build the factory extension in 1902, still occupied by Sanderson today.

1924 - By Royal Appointment

Arthur Bengough Sanderson becomes the holder of the first Royal Warrant for Sanderson as Purveyor of Wallpapers and Paints to King George V, said to be the first warrant granted for the supply of these products.

1953 - Iconic Florals Bloom

The design studio becomes renowned for producing iconic floral designs, cementing Sanderson as the home of botanicals and florals. Chatsworth, an iconic Kenneth Truman design, is produced.

2025 - Layers of Legacy

Highgrove by Sanderson launches in partnership with The King’s Foundation. It is inspired by the extraordinary flora and fauna of Highgrove Gardens, His Majesty King Charles III’s beloved gardens.

A Proud Royal Warrant Holding Brand

Since 1924, we have held a Royal Warrant for supplying fabrics, paint, and wallcoverings to the Royal Residences, an honour we’ve cherished for over 100 years.

How Do I Place an Order?

Are there any specific hanging instructions for your wallpapers?

Hanging instructions are sent with every roll of wallpaper. We recommend that your decorator reads these instructions fully before starting to hang the wallpaper.

Are your wallcoverings manufactured with sustainable material?

All our wallpapers are sourced from environmentally responsible suppliers and manufactured in our British factory, Anstey Wallpaper Company, part of Sanderson Design Group.
